Minds play tricks. We fall. Reality bends beneath our feet.
You think you're rational, don't you? That your decisions make perfect sense, that your judgments are sound, that your perception of reality is accurate. I hate to break it to you, but your brain is running a sophisticated con game, and you're the mark.
We all are.
Our brains are magnificent machines built for survival, not truth. They're designed to keep us alive, not to see the world as it actually is. And in that gap between reality and perception lies a fascinating playground of cognitive biases that shape everything we do.
I see it every day in my coaching practice. Smart, successful people making the same thinking errors over and over. The executive who can't see that his leadership style isn't working. The entrepreneur who keeps throwing good money after bad. The brilliant woman who remains convinced she's an impostor despite mountains of evidence to the contrary.
